GREAT LAWNS in FIVE EASY STEPS

Mowing

Mowing is one of the most misunderstood and misaligned parts of lawn care and is the most often incorrectly performed. Too many people set their mowers too low and “scalp” their lawn. The grass thins and dies and eventually there is NO grass. In the spring (March and April), your grass can be mown to approximately 2-inches and do bag the clippings as they will not decay in the cold temperature. In May and June when the temperature rises, raise the mower to 3-inches and you’ll reduce summer stress on the lawn. The grass will look greener and soil surfaces will stay moister and not dry out as easily. In the summer months, recycle grass clippings back to the soil. You’ll be supplying free nutrients and decaying grass invites earthworms to the surface which in turn helps aerate the soil.
